That Time Is Now
Last millennium, before many of you had drawn breath, I wrote around 7,700 words for an article entitled, “Redeeming Our Sad Gay Situation.” In the wayback machine on December 5, 1992, this was the first substantive piece written by the Adventist press on the subject of LGBTI — in fact, before the acronym even existed.
Since then, much and little have changed. The first openly gay NFL player was drafted by the St. Louis Rams this month. Reparative therapy has been shown to be a harmful disaster, to the extent that in 2013, Exodus International, a leader in “change therapy,” apologized to the gay community and shuttered its doors forever. And the Adventist Church, guardians and seekers alike, still sincerely grapples with how to treat our brothers and sisters whose sexual orientation is “different.” Read more...
